Our weekend living room project has turned in to a little longer project than we thought it might be. But that's mainly because we didn't have just five days before an open house or some tv thing like that. We're spreading the work out over a few weekends. Last weekend I painted at the ceiling line with white paint to even things up a bit. Next I need to go back with some red paint around the doors and at the trim and do the same thing. Then, the north wall will get the same treatment.
The wallpaper removal went pretty well after we quit using the $15.00 p/gal wallpaper remover gel we purchased at Home Depot. A Home Depot home improvement book hubby had, suggested vinegar and warm water. Viola! It worked like a charm.
Painting was another thing. We've since been told that using red is one of the more difficult colors to work with and that we should have used the flattest roller available. Painting around six doors is not fun either. So much trim work! That fell to me because I have more patience and better hand-eye coordination. Poor hubby had to put four coats of paint on one wall in order to have roller marks concealed. We had to put on two coats anyway, which surprised us. And, the walls have two foot wide sections of sheetrock instead of four foot wide sections. None were taped. I sanded and we thought it was real smooth, but you can see seams. Oh, well. It's our first paint job and it looks pretty good...considering.
Our next problem is deciding what to put on the wall that you see as you enter the house: a Jayhawk beak or a Harvick #29 Shell logo.
