The title of my post today is one of the lines I remember from the movie "Groundhog Day". Our family just concluded our annual Groundhog Day celebration. I don't remember when this began, but for the last three or four years, I've taken February 2nd off of work and stayed home for the doo dah. This year was special because our granddaughter was able to celebrate her first Groundhog Day with Gampa and GamaMoo from dawn until dusk.
Here's how the day went. Son, DIL and granddaughter joined us at 6:30 a.m. to partake in the traditional Groundhog Day breakfast of sausage gravy (ground hog), biscuits, scrambled eggs and hashbrowns. We had the DVD of "Groundhog Day" playing.
Around noon we turned off the video. The afternoon was spent playing with the granddaughter, hubby playing his guitar and preparing food for supper.
Our daughter and SIL arrived at 5:30, followed about a half-hour later by son and DIL. We sat down to the traditional supper of pork burgers (ground hog), hamburgers, potato salad, fruit salad, baked beans and chips. Granddaughter really tore into the pork burger. We had Groundhog Day playing during supper. Afterwards we turned it off and sang a little karaoke and enjoyed ice cream for dessert.
So there you have it. Our family's little way of celebrating Groundhog Day. While looking forward to six more weeks of winter, according to Punxsutawney Phil, we ended the day with a little bit of summertime eats. It's a fun day and one we can pretty much claim as our own.
