Just Ducky...Or Is It?

It's May 5th, which means Cinco de Mayo celebrations.  Not by us so much, however, we did enjoy a nice mexican meal at a favorite restaurant this afternoon.  We then headed for home in order to see the Kentucky Derby.  We don't follow horse racing any other time of the year, but, like the Superbowl, we want to see the biggies. Which takes me to the rest of the evening.

Tonight was the "supermoon" when the moon is 15,300 miles closer to earth, 14% larger and 30% brighter than normal.  Hubby wanted to drive out of the neighborhood and try to see the moonrise.  This took us to the city lake, just a few miles from home.  Waiting for the moon, we sat on a bench watching ducks, geese and other assorted fowl being fed bread crumbs by the locals.  (We also watched the locals.)

When the bread was gone, we watched ducks flying directly over our heads to the water, mallards paired up and laying next to other in the green grass, irritated geese flapping their wings and honking their warning that seemed to say, "We're here.  Get the hell out of our way."

As the wind blew at us across the water, clouds were hovering over the horizon.  It seemed as if we were not going to see the supermoon.  Disappointed, we headed to the nearest Sonic and purchased a couple of drinks.  We drove back to the lake dam and watched a few boats skim the water while we ate a Moon Pie in honor of the celestial event.

We decided to take the route on the east side of the lake as we headed for home, and there it was: the moon!  Full, bright, hidden by a few clouds, yet looking pretty darned big over the tops of houses and trees.  I found a side street with few obstructions between me and the moon and took a few photos.  These aren't museum quality, but they give you an idea of what Hubby and I saw.  The moon is a wonder and it's shining brightly on us at the end of a wonderful evening.
