Feeding the Ducks

Tuesday is the one night Sunshine gets to spend with her Daddy.  It's been a hot summer, so we've not done much on those Tuesday evenings except read, color, play beauty shop, watch movies and play with the puppies.  Yesterday I decided we were going to enjoy the slightly cooler temperatures and take Sunshine to the city's beautiful lake to feed the ducks.  She was excited and wasted no time getting her Daddy to put her shoes on her feet.  We grabbed a partial bag of bread and headed out the door.

When we arrived, the ducks were on the water, but near the shoreline.  Daddy took Sunshine down to the edge where they began throwing bits of bread at the ducks.  Bread doesn't go far against the wind, but if you ball it up first, it will travel a little further.  Let me tell you, Gamma was on pins and needles watching Sunshine toss bread balls while toddling on the rocky shore, not to mention getting so close to the water.

Anyway, we decided to back away from the water and lead the ducks out of the lake by tossing the bread on the ground.  It worked.  First one small duck came out.  Then another, and his friend, and his friend...  We were surrounded by waddling, quacking ducks.  Sunshine loved it.  She wasn't a bit scared and hollered, "Oh, duuuucky.  Come heeeerrrre!"  The ducks were standing so close, she could have reached out and patted them on their heads.  But Daddy and I wouldn't let her.  We didn't want a duck to mistake her finger for a hunk of bread.

Sunshine stood there looking at the ducks with her big brown eyes and said, "I love you, ducky."  It was so cute.  We ran out of bread which disappointed the ducks and Sunshine, but the promise of an ice cream cone turned her frown into a smile quickly.  And off we went.
