Hold on to your Hats!

“It really was no miracle.
What happened was just this.
The wind began to switch – the house to pitch
And suddenly the hinges started to unhitch.
Just then the Witch – to satisfy an itch
Went flying on her broomstick, thumbing for a hitch.”

Dorothy in “Munchkin Land” from “The Wizard of Oz” – Copied from MetroLyrics.com

That's what it's been like around here today.  Windy as all get out with just a few sprinkles tossed in every few hours. Thankfully. Yesterday you'd have thought the apocalypse was coming with all of the warnings about conditions being ripe for tornadoes in our area today.  The weathermen made it sound as if tornadoes the size of nothing we'd seen before were coming down on us.  I understand the need to warn everyone as soon as possible.  Lives are lost when warning is not given  and you don't have time to get to shelter.  But I'm not going in the basement until they sound the siren, and sounding a tornado siren for 24 hours is not going to happen.

So today, my nerves have been on edge and my eyes trained to the sky since waking. Clouds?  Yes.  Wind?  Yes.  Rain?  Sprinkles.  Tornadoes?  Yes, in the state, but not here...yet.  The tornado watch is on until 2:00 a.m.  There are still tornadoes being spotted south of here.  In preparation I've packed my "fraidy hole" bags and they are sitting by the basement door.  Here are some of the contents:
  • Cameras and batteries
  • Jewelry
  • Family Bibles
  • Photos
  • Baby books
  • Purse
  • Shoes
  • Head lamp and flashlights
  • Phone charger
  • Medications
  • Water
And there you have it.  It needs to be said, however, the most important items can't be put in the bags: our kids and granddaughters.  With that thought, I'll close by praying our night is peaceful and my family and friends are safe.

Note:  I have no idea why part of this blog is in a white box.  Tried to fix it to no avail.
