TGIF

The day before an orientation session is always a little frenetic.  Name badges are printed and folders are being stuffed for the hundreds of students and guests that will be attending.  Procrastinators stop by or call the office asking if they can puhleeze register for tomorrow's session.  The office staff doubles in number as orientation assistants arrive to help get materials ready and deliver them to the union which, in turn, increases the noise level.  The students are fun though, so it balances out.  It's just a crazy day.  Today was no different and, in fact, included these additional twists:

*  The combination copier/printer, acronymed "MFD" for "Multi-Functional Device" (I call it something else.), apparently doesn't like the ink the printing company uses on the name badges we use and it melts to the roller.  This leaves light to dark colored bars all across the label page in four places.  The repairman was summoned.  He shows up at noon o'five and I lose 10 minutes of my lunch with a friend to explain why he was called.

*  One of our two Graduate Assistants spent his last day in our office.  He's off to his first full-time job in the big city as he finishes up his Master's Degree.  He's the second staff member to leave in two months time and the third to leave in the last nine months.  As Alice says, "People come and go so quickly around here."  I'll miss ol' what's-his-name.  He was a fun addition to the office.

My saving grace today came in laughter with my co-workers, all of them the age of my kids or younger; lunch with a friend who didn't mind the interruption; and a Dammit Doll from another friend who understands very well what it's like to work at the university.  I may sleep with that doll.
